Chris Pearson VS Matt Mullenweg

There has been lots of talk recently about the online “discussion” between Matt (of WordPress fame) and Chris (of Thesis fame). Below is what went down on twitter. (It was also a nice test for our Twitter Blackbird Pie WordPress plugin)

Well, I can't stop @photomatt from spreading propaganda and lies, but what I CAN do is be honest about the whole situation. Video coming.

Is it fair that I should be patronized? RT @photomatt @pearsonified I can send you a WP shirt if you need one. #thesiswp

@pearsonified I'm just so broken up that WordPress is useless without #thesiswp, best theme in the world, responsible for all innovation.

Yo @photomatt, no one has claimed that Thesis is responsible for all innovation. Why are you handling your position so irresponsibly?

@abhijeetmk WordPress 3.0 is about 200k lines of code from people who agree with WordPress' license. How many is #thesiswp?

Hey @photomatt, since when is the number of lines of code a measure of a software's validity, affect, and importance? http://bit.ly/dbMM0B

RT @mrglu this "thesis is the devil" thing from @photomatt is uncivil. Credibility is derived from reasonable discourse.

@pearsonified It's not civil to violate WordPress' license, for years, because you think it makes you more money. #thesiswp

@pearsonified The saddest thing is all the premium folks who went GPL proved you can be just as successful. The hard work is done. #thesiswp

@pearsonified Why do you think you understand WordPress' license better than the people who wrote it? #thesiswp

Hey @photomatt, I'm no lawyer, and I never said anything about my understanding of the GPL. All I said is that it does not apply to me.

@pearsonified Yes, you are above the law, and licenses. None of it applies to you. You can pick and choose which bits you like. #thesiswp

@pearsonified so just to confirm, Thesis contains no GPL code, and links no core WP code, so the GPL doesn't apply?

Follow the twitter convo live on http://bettween.com and see how it pans out.

You can also listen to the convo on Mixergy.

Fight all you want. Matt wins any day. Yes I make money on my site from marketing premium themes, but I am also a strong believer in the GPL license for Wordpress.

Chris will always loose this battle...And PS: Thesis kinda sucks.

Hey AJ, we agree with you on the GPL side of things. It's a real pity that Chris feels so strongly about this, as he seems to be loosing customers now (from what I see on Twitter). If he went GPL Matt says he will even promote Thesis. What better marketing could you ask for? I just hope it doesn't end in a court battle. Let's see what happens....
